How to Still Play Escape Velocity Nova Today!

Play the Retro Game!

Did you miss this retro game?  Escape Velocity was a series of three Space Simulation/Roleplaying/Trading Games set in space, with some inspiration from Star Wars and Star Trek sprinkled in.  Welcome to the Milky Way Galaxy in the Future, travelling around the galaxy in your own starship.  The series began with Escape Velocity, developed by Programmer Matt Burch for the company, Ambrosia Software.  The games contained elements of Roleplaying games, in which the player made decisions to undertake missions for various factions, combat in the player controlling their spaceship to battle other ships in top-down perspective similar to the asteroids arcade game, and the game includes elements such as store purchases from the money (credits) earned by the player in completing missions or trading commodities (food, materials, merchandise between different planets or space stations)

The games were distributed as Shareware, or a game in which one has the full game file, but can only play the full game by registering the game by purchasing a license from the software publisher.  The games were distributed by the now-defunct Ambrosia Software.  With Ambrosia Software out of business and no longer in existence as of 2018, how would one obtain the original games?  Well thankfully, there is an open source version of the game made by dedicated fans to play on today's Mac OS and Windows Operating Systems.  It's known as the Community Edition.

What is the Community Edition?

The Community Edition of Escape Velocity Nova or EV Nova is an open source version of Escape Velocity Nova for both Windows and Mac OS, which contains the features of EV Nova and also versions of the previous two Escape Velocity games, not as Shareware, but rather as open source games.  In spite of Ambrosia Software being dead as a company, you can still play their classic Escape Velocity Games.  This is even an improvement over the original games, as you can play the other two games as total conversion mods on both Windows and Mac OS operating systems!  Just a click on the label and the game will be downloaded as Windows or Mac OS, depending on your operating system which you are running (Or Emulating, if you are looking at the page in VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop

So, what are you waiting for?  Check out the Community Edition Page and let the games begin!

After you download the Game for Windows or Mac OS, you extract the game folder from the compressed .zip file into the Application Folder into your "programs" Folder in Windows or "Applications" folder in Mac OS!  The same is easily done with each of the EV Nova Total Conversion Mods for the earlier games, and even the mods such as Frozen Heart as well.  Use the same process of unzipping the downloaded files into your programs or Applications Folder, and they will be ready to play!

Conclusion

With all of these steps completed, you should have a great time playing Escape Velocity Nova on Mac OS or on Windows Operating Systems! You can also follow additional instructional video guides on my YouTube Playlist, Kaos Tutorials. Kaos Tutorials episodes are also available
