The Ultimate Guide for Running Steam in Windows 11 on a Mac!

     So, there's bad news : Steam is no longer playable on Windows 10 with more recent updates.  This includes emulation software including Codeweavers Crossover.  The good news is that with some troubleshooting, you can install Steam as a Windows 11 Bottle in Crossover 26.  This is the written version of such a guide!  So let's get started!

 

First of all, install Steam as a Windows 11 Bottle.  There will be a prompt on if you are sure about installing a Windows 11 Bottle, but this has been tested and it works.  

 

    Then, after running the Installation of Steam, including fonts, it's time to install "DirectX For Modern Games" into your new Steam Bottle.  This will install dependencies or essential files which the Steam Installation missed.

 

 

 

     Now, with DirectX installed, it's time for installing DXVK into the Steam Bottle, so setup the installation of DXVK into the Steam Bottle as shown below.

 

 

    Now, with the essential files installed, let's take a look at the optional software installations here.

 

 Bethesda Game Files

    So, with Bethesda Games, including Fallout games such as Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4, or Fallout 3 lest we forget, in addition to the Elder Scrolls games such as Morrowind, Oblivion, or Skyrim, there are a set of four files that need to be added into the game through wine configuration or winecfg, which you can see below.   

 

 

 

 

 

The following files should be copied and pasted into the Libraries tab of wine configuration.

 

x3daudio1_6
x3daudio1_7
xaudio2_6
xaudio2_7

 

There you are, finished with the Bethesda Files.

 

Final Fantasy File Installation

    Just as with the Bethesda installations, go into wine configuration and copy and paste a number of directx files that didn't install into Steam for the Final Fantasy games, including Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy VIII.

 

 

 

    Now, with the Final Fantasy games taken care of, let's take a look at how we take care of the Ubisoft games next! 

 

Ubisoft Setup

    Now, for Ubisoft, the publisher behind Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, and more, has a more simple setup : They have their own App for playing their games, even within Steam, it's known as Ubisoft Connect. And the setup is rather easy : Installing the Ubisoft App into the Steam Bottle.  Take a look below.

 

 

     

    Now that we have the other game setups taken care of, we are good to go with an improved compatibility for the various games on Steam with Windows 11.  Hopefully, Codeweavers will have an update so that this is done automatically in the future.  In the meantime, I will offer my conclusion.
