Fallout New Vegas on Mac OS! An Update for Codeweavers Crossover 24.0.5!
Fallout New Vegas on Mac OS! An Update!
There has been some changes shown from recent testing of Fallout : New Vegas on Codeweavers Crossover 24.0.5. Here are the findings in its functionality, and they are good. Fallout New Vegas now runs well even with Advanced Settings engaged in the Steam Bottle, which previously was an issue for some games with the Advanced Settings engaged, but now? Not so much. So here's a new guide for getting Fallout New Vegas Installed on Mac OS using Steam or the GOG.com Installation!
GOG.com
GOG.com is a great place to get DRM-Free Games for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS. To get Fallout : New Vegas Installed, first purchase the game from GOG.com, then download the installers. On Mac OS, download the offline installers manually instead of using GOG Galaxy since GOG Galaxy as an app is only built to run and install Mac OS games.
To get started, the default installation is to install within Steam, change it and select the installer from GOG.com
Default
For a GOG.com Installation
Installation of Fallout New Vegas works just fine by either Windows 7 or Windows 10. Just remember to make sure that during the GOG.com Installation, all of the Direct X Components successfully install. Now that you have installed Fallout New Vegas, it should be ready to go!
Steam Installation
In order to get this going, you should have a Steam Bottle which is installed as Windows 10, 64-bit. I have a full guide to Installing Steam on Codeweavers Crossover right here
Now, after you install Steam, there is Fallout New Vegas in your Steam Library if you purchased the game on Steam. Before finally playing Fallout New Vegas, there is one last step : The Bethesda Audio Override. Here is a written guide for the procedure on Radio Kaos Blog
Here is a video guide for how you perform The Bethesda Audio Override in Steam
Now what is the reason for the Bethesda Audio Override? There are key dependencies or libraries (using the .dll on the end of the file, that fail to install for Bethesda Games on an installation involving Codeweavers Crossover, and the Bethesda Audio Override ensures that those key files get installed into the proper bottle.
Advanced Settings
The Advanced Settings are on the right side of the bottle, circled in red |
Now, not all games run fine on default settings for the Bottle in Codeweavers Crossover. Some games require special settings for graphics and audio processing, known as Advanced Settings, in order to run well. These games include Age of Empires II : Definitive Edition, Age of Empires III : Definitive Edition, and Halo : The Master Chief Collection, when it comes to their Steam Versions being played. With some games being run, you need to turn off Advanced Settings in order for the game to run smoothly. For others, not so much. When it comes to Fallout : New Vegas, you do not need the Advanced Settings engaged to run the game well, but you can leave certain settings on, and in spite of some possible issues such as the screen scaling for high definition graphics, the game will still run fine overall. In the case of running Fallout New Vegas, this is a program that lies somewhere in between no Advanced Settings Active, and all Advanced Settings Active.
If No Advanced Settings Are Active |
Fallout New Vegas can have these settings active |
If any of the following Advanced Settings are Active, Fallout New Vegas can play just fine. DXVK, ESync, and High Resolution Mode. Although for High Resolution Mode in New Vegas, you are going to want to adjust the game resolution to 1440 x 900 or above so that the resolution is high resolution and scaled to the high resolution setting.
