The Complete Guide for Fallout : New Vegas on Mac OS!

So this article begins with both good and bad news.  The bad news is that Fallout New Vegas stopped properly installing on The Porting Kit.  The good news, however, is that Codeweavers Crossover finally does run the app, after a long wait, in version 24.0.3!  So, this article will detail how to get the game running in both its GOG.com and Steam versions.

GOG.com version

This version relies on obtaining the version of the game found on GOG.com.  It's rather easy to do.  Make sure to download all the neccessary installer files.  Then, after all the Installer Files have been downloaded off the GOG.com website or through the GOG Galaxy App, proceed to set up the installation to involve the setup executable, with the screenshot below for reference.

With the setup as shown above with a Windows 10 64-bit bottle and the Installer provided by GOG.com, proceed with the installation, there should be a Direct X Installation for the game's neccessary dependencies, followed by the official install of the game through the GOG.com Installer.  The number 2 is not normal, but indicates there is another bottle already installed, which I did earlier in testing.

The Bethesda Audio Override

After installing the game via GOG.com offline setup executable, you need to do the Bethesda Audio Override.  The Override is needed because the installer for later Bethesda Games including The Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout : New Vegas, and Fallout 4.  Fallout 76, and The Elder Scrolls Online have not been tested for this procedure.

Now with the game installed, go into the wine configuration of the Fallout New Vegas Bottle (GOG.com version) or into the wine configuration of Steam, and add the following dependencies to the "libraries" Tab within the Wine Configuration.

Here are two references for the games in either the GOG.com or Steam Versions.

Steam

Steam Installation

The Steam Installation is considerably easier.  However, there are some dependencies which should be included into the Steam Bottle before you carry out the installation within Steam.  So, as a setup, it should look something like this:

There will be several dependencies installed in the form of Direct X, Net 4.0, and appropriate fonts installed.  The remainder of your installation is performed within Steam.  As shown above, The Bethesda Audio Override can be performed into the Steam Bottle before or after installing Fallout New Vegas.  It's recommended to perform the Steam version of the Bethesda Audio Override into Steam before any installations of Bethesda games even occur, as the override applies to any of the Bethesda Games installed into the Steam Bottle.
