Compatibility Updates for Codeweavers Crossover (Early 2025) Part 1

Update on Compatibility Tests, Part 1

So, early on in the Year of 2025, I have decided to deliver a list of some recent tests of Applications and have links to the guides on how to get those applications running in an article. Take a look at the article to see what applications have been tested by myself, and some run even better than they used to thanks to the updates on Codeweavers Crossover. Without much further ado, let's begin.

Steam

I had written and made video guides for Steam, the gaming service Application from Valve Software, years ago, but with the updates for Codeweavers Crossover, it was time for a new guide to be made to keep up to date! The new guide is great for the Steam versions of the other games mentioned previously mentioned on this list which involve Steam to run. This guide was made during version 24.0.5 of Crossover, and a new guide will be made later this year for remaining up to date during version 25!

Bungie Games

Oni

This old third person fighting/shooter hybrid game works quite well, even better in newer versions of Crossover, beginning with version 24, as previously, it only ran the Anniversary Edition modded version of the game, now the base game does run, but you need to follow the video guide found here

Marathon Trilogy

This old trilogy of first person shooters developed by Bungie as a response to Doom, long had a complex installation for working on Codeweavers Crossover. Now, it operates easily on Steam, as the development team for Open Source Marathon have added Marathon games to Steam for installation. A guide to getting Marathon running on Steam is found here. Also the guide to Installing Steam has been updated for Crossover 24.0.5, and still works on Crossover 24.0.7.

Halo : The Master Chief Collection

While the original Halo games were developed by Bungie, with the original Halo Trilogy, Steam has the Master Chief Collection, a compilation of 6 Halo Games, (Halo : Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, Halo Reach, and Halo 4) Remastered and published to Steam or the XBox consoles by 343 Industries. You can get the Master Chief Collection on Steam or on the XBox Store. A Full written guide to the Installation of the Halo Games in the collection is provided here on the blog, and if you're more into video guides, I provided a video guide over on YouTube.

Command & Conquer Games

The Command & Conquer games are a blast from the past of the late 90s and early 2000s, with a more recent remaster of the original Command & Conquer, renamed Tiberian Dawn, and the original Red Alert, formatted for widescreen and HD displays in their 2020 remastered collection. With the launch of the EA Play Gaming Service within Steam during the summer of 2024, followed by the option to purchase the games individually, it has been a great year for retro gaming on this old series of real time strategy games and a first person shooter spinoff game known as Renegade. So let's take a look at the games in this series!

Command & Conquer Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert

There is good news and bad news for the first two games in the Command & Conquer saga. The bad news is that the original games crash when you try to run them using Steam on Codeweavers Crossover. Now that the bad news is out of the way, the good news is that the Remastered Collection, which contains both Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert in a new remastered version, does work even into the current version (24.0.7) of Crossover. So here, take a look at the guide I made for the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection

Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun

Released in 1999 as a sequel of the Command & Conquer Tiberian Dawn, Tiberian Sun continued the real time strategy series in a futuristic setting in the year 2030, with the Global Defense Initiative or GDI and the Brotherhood of Nod at war once again with Battlemechs, hovercraft, underground burrowing vehicles, and more! The unfortunate status of Tiberian Sun is that the Steam Version involving EA Play service or a Steam purchase frequently crashes on startup or during gameplay, but the version installed using EA's free online installer works just fine!

Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge

Shortly after the Tiberium Games resumed the struggle between GDI and NOD, Westwood/EA decided to spin off sequels of Red Alert, making new world wars fought between the Soviets and Allied Powers after the original Soviet/Allied War of 1946-1952, which was also the history of the Tiberium Games, but delving into the convoluted story of Command & Conquer isn't the focus of today : Playing the Games IS! So Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge can be purchased together on Steam. So far, the game plays, but crashes at odd points and lags in others as well. It very much still deserves the 3/5 Compatibility rating I gave it earlier in my review of the EA Play Service, even though you can purchase the game individually now, the compatibility rating does not differ, although if you buy it individually, you don't need the EA Play Subscription to keep on playing it. Hopefully, with future updates, compatibility will improve.

Command & Conquer : Renegade

At one time there was the Doomguy, another time, there was Duke Nukem, in Star Wars, there was Kyle Katarn, but with Command & Conquer, there was Havoc as the IP's token first person shooter protagonist in Command & Conquer Renegade! Renegade was Command & Conquer's venture into a first person shooter, in which you can play through the main single player game as a GDI Commando known as Havoc, or a number of GDI or NOD characters from Tiberian Dawn in multiplayer games. Renegade delivered an immersive experience on the battlefields of Command & Conquer, and has been extensively modded to resemble Red Alert and Tiberian Sun as well. But the good news is that while the game was made available on Steam as part of EA Play, it now can be owned individually or part of the Command & Conquer Complete Collection. Check out my Guide on Renegade!

Command & Conquer 3 : Tiberium Wars + Kane’s Wrath

The sequel to Tiberian Sun doesn’t disappoint, but rather remains high performing for Windows on Mac gaming. The Guide is right here for Command & Conquer 3 : Tiberium Wars!
